S1 E86 | First Day in Singapore – From Laos to Little India
We flew from Laos to Singapore, one of the most expensive countries in Southeast Asia, to spend a few days exploring on a budget. Right after landing, we ended up buying something at duty-free – not out of luxury, but just to make our Singapore vlog more interesting. But soon, things got tense when Nav was stopped at immigration and taken to an interrogation area because of a passport name change. It was a stressful start, but thankfully resolved quickly.
Once cleared, we hopped onto Singapore’s metro system. The trains were fast, efficient, and reminded us a lot of Bangalore’s metro – only more advanced. Public transport here is the easiest way for budget travelers in Singapore to get around. We made our way to our uncle and aunt’s home, where the highlight was a comforting plate of home-cooked Indian food. After nearly four months on the road, that familiar taste meant so much.
Later in the evening, we set out again to explore. With our metro cards in hand, we headed straight to Little India Singapore. The streets were glowing with Deepavali decorations, colorful lights, and the vibrant energy of the Indian community. It felt like stepping into a slice of home away from home.
The day ended with a reunion dinner with old friends and colleagues who now live in Singapore. Sharing stories, laughter, and good food made our first day in Singapore unforgettable. From immigration worries in the morning to exploring one of the most colorful parts of the city by night, it was a reminder that every journey comes with unexpected challenges and beautiful rewards.
