S1 E79 | Blue Lagoons and Hidden Caves in Vang Vieng, Laos
Vang Vieng had always held a special place in our hearts. On this day, we set out to revisit some of its best-kept secrets — caves tucked away in limestone cliffs and the famous blue lagoons that travelers from across the world dream of.
Our morning began with a climb. The trail up to the abandoned limestone cave was rugged and marked by scattered plastic, but the sense of anticipation kept us going. Halfway up, we were already out of breath, yet the thought of the cave hidden inside the mountain kept pushing us forward. Inside, the darkness contrasted with the outside world, and for a few quiet moments, it felt like stepping back in time.
But the real thrill of Vang Vieng awaited us at the Blue Lagoon. This spot had been our favorite years ago, and returning here felt even more special — it was Shishira’s birthday. The cool turquoise waters were irresistible. On the other hand, I, with a life jacket strapped on, tested the waters before attempting the big leap. And then came the jump — five meters down into ice-cold, clear water. The laughter, the nervous cheers, and the splash made it a moment we won’t forget.
Compared to Blue Lagoon 2, which we had visited back in 2018, this first lagoon was smaller but livelier. The surrounding trees offered shade, and the energy of fellow travelers filled the place with excitement. Shops and stalls flanked the entry, making it more touristy than before, but once you climbed the tree and jumped into the water, none of that mattered.
Later in the day, we made it to Blue Lagoon 6, a far less crowded spot, and perhaps the most beautiful of them all. The colors of the water shimmered in a surreal blue-green hue — so magical it felt unreal.
What made this day even more memorable was not just the landscapes, but the little moments — the laughter over birthday wishes, riding scooters through Vang Vieng’s countryside, and even troubleshooting our camera after a month of shaky footage.
This was a day that blended thrill, beauty, and personal milestones — everything that travel is meant to be.
