S1 E48 | Da Nang’s Dragon Bridge, DHC Marina and Rainy Beach Walks in Vietnam
We started the day with comfort food at a familiar spot—a little banh mi shop we had visited the day before. The owner recognized us instantly, and her warm smile made us feel right at home. She quickly served us two steaming vegetarian banh mis, and just like that, our day in Da Nang began with simple happiness.
After lunch, we rode out to explore the coastline. From the vantage point, we could see Da Nang’s sweeping beach curving like a crescent, with the city’s skyscrapers lining the background. The Han River flowed gently into the sea, splitting into small islands before disappearing into the gray horizon. With the drizzle making the sky, mountains, and water all blend into muted shades of gray, the view was moody but strangely beautiful.
Our next stop was DHC Marina, a lively riverside promenade that felt almost like a smaller version of Singapore’s Marina Bay. We spotted the Merlion-inspired statue, cruise liners docked along the pier, and even a seafood restaurant housed in a ship. The rain didn’t stop tourists from strolling across the love lock bridge, where hundreds of padlocks clung to the railings as symbols of affection.
And then came the highlight—the iconic Da Nang Dragon Bridge. At over 600 meters long, this golden dragon is not just a marvel of design but also a true spectacle. Normally, the dragon breathes fire and water on weekends, but we were in luck—on this Tuesday evening, it unexpectedly roared to life. Standing on the bridge, with the dragon spitting flames into the night sky, was one of those magical travel moments we’ll never forget.
As the evening wound down, we strolled through local markets and soaked in the city’s energy. Despite the rain, Da Nang surprised us with its unique mix of coastal calm, modern energy, and playful charm. Compared to the hustle of Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang felt quieter, slower, and far more enjoyable—a city that invites you to linger.
