S1 E41 | From Pattaya to Bangkok: Minivans, Street Food, and First-Time Laundry Adventures
After an exciting but exhausting day in Pattaya, it was time to head back to Bangkok. Our day started with packing in full swing and checking out of our hotel just before noon. With jackets on for the chilly bus ride, we made our way to the minivan station near Central Festival Mall, ready for the journey ahead.
Traveling from Pattaya to Bangkok involved some waiting and planning. Our original plan for a direct minivan to the Khao San area was too expensive and the schedule unclear. Instead, we hopped on a songthaew (blue taxi) for a quick ride to the bus station, purchased our tickets, and waited for the 2:20 PM bus to Ekamai Bus Terminal, Bangkok’s eastern transport hub.
Along the way, we shared laughs, snacked on local treats, and even met someone from Bangalore, making the long journey feel smaller and more connected.
Upon arriving in Bangkok, we explored the Sukhumvit area, reminiscent of MG Road in Bangalore. Inspired by a famous food blogger, we visited a restaurant specializing in customizable vegetarian Thai dishes. From spicy levels to fresh leafy veggies and chili sauces, it was a flavorful adventure. While the food was incredibly spicy—even for seasoned spice lovers—it was a delicious experience that highlighted Bangkok’s rich culinary culture.
One of the unexpected highlights of our day was our first laundromat experience in Thailand. Converting money to points, buying detergents and fabric softener, and carefully managing washing and drying machines, we learned the ropes quickly. In total, 7 kg of clothes were washed and dried for just 90 baht, leaving our clothes fresh, crispy, and ready for the next leg of our journey.
After editing and laundry, we stepped out for a light dinner. A gentle drizzle cooled the streets, making our evening walk even more enjoyable. We explored a small neighborhood restaurant known for its flexibility in preparing vegetarian versions of Thai dishes, a rare find in Southeast Asia.
Even amidst travel fatigue, the simple joys—like hot food in a cool drizzle, a first-time laundry victory, and street food surprises—made the day memorable.
Tomorrow promises new adventures as we dive deeper into Bangkok’s energy, culture, and flavors. Stay tuned!
