S1 E39 | Overnight Bus from Chiang Mai to Bangkok to Pattaya

Vlogs

After an amazing few days exploring Chiang Mai, it was time to hit the road again. We returned our trusty “Red Rooster” scooter, ensuring it was in perfect condition, handed back the helmets, and collected our deposit. With everything settled, we headed to the Akita Bus Terminal to catch our overnight bus to Bangkok.

The bus itself was surprisingly comfortable. Our seats could recline fully, allowing us to stretch out for the night. As we settled in, we were offered some biscuits, and we had stocked up on water, yogurt, and snacks from 7-Eleven for the ride. With air conditioning keeping the cabin cool, it was a much better experience than the sweltering bus station.

The journey was long, but the views during sunset and the gradual shift into night made the trip peaceful. We were scheduled to reach Bangkok the following morning, where we needed to catch another bus to Pattaya. Navigating Bangkok’s Mojit Bus Station proved a bit confusing at first, with multiple counters and options, but we eventually found the minivan station that would take us closer to our hotel.

The ride to Pattaya included a verbal arrangement with the driver, dropping us near our hotel. While it required a little extra walking, the adventure and the local interaction made it memorable.

Arriving early in the morning, we quickly checked into our THB 280 hotel room in the town centre. It was a relief to finally rest after nearly 12 hours on the road. Our room was clean, comfortable, and equipped with a safe, giving us peace of mind. After freshening up, we were ready to start exploring Pattaya.

This episode is a reminder of the unpredictability and excitement of budget travel in Thailand. From scooter returns to navigating chaotic bus stations and enduring long overnight rides, every step is part of the journey. Planning, patience, and a sense of adventure make these experiences not just bearable but truly memorable.
