S1 E38 | Exploring Chiang Mai Temples and Our Last Day Before Bangkok
Our time in Chiang Mai was coming to an end, but we were determined to make the most of our final day in this northern Thai city. After exploring the scenic town of Pai, we returned to Chiang Mai to dive into its local culture, temples, and food before catching the overnight bus to Bangkok.
We began the day at one of Chiang Mai’s many beautiful temples. Even in the intense heat, the calm of the temple grounds, intricate architecture, and serene vibes made it worth every step. Chiang Mai is famous for its Buddhist temples, each offering a unique experience of Thai spirituality and culture, making temple hopping an essential part of any Chiang Mai itinerary.
For accommodation, we stayed at Chiang Mai Walkers Hostel — a quirky, budget-friendly option perfect for travelers. With a completely virtual check-in system, we simply scanned a QR code, sent our passport details via LINE, and received the door passcode. Our small room, about 12×12 feet, was cozy and functional, complemented by a surprisingly large bathroom. Two fans and thick quilts made the space comfortable even in the warm Chiang Mai nights.
After our temple visit, the heat called for a hearty meal. We revisited an Indian restaurant we had discovered the previous day. A generous spread of mixed vegetable curry, dal, basmati rice, roti, and tangy chutneys brought a taste of home to our travels. Budget-conscious travelers will be happy to know that this place is affordable while still offering authentic flavors — a perfect stop on your Chiang Mai food tour.
On our way back, we spotted a small ice cream cart selling coconut and mango ice cream. At just THB 20 per cup, it was the ideal refreshment after a hot morning exploring Chiang Mai’s temples. Small, local finds like these are what make budget travel in Chiang Mai so enjoyable.
The afternoon was spent returning our scooter to Cat Motors, finishing overdue video edits, and preparing for the overnight bus to Bangkok. Before leaving, we reflected on how rewarding Chiang Mai had been — from its peaceful temples and lush streets to the cozy hostels and delicious food.
If you’re traveling from Pai to Chiang Mai, start early in the morning to beat the heat and make the most of your day. Chiang Mai is a city where culture, comfort, and local flavors blend perfectly, offering unforgettable experiences for budget travelers and adventurers alike.
