S1 E34 | Chiang Mai Night Market – delicious Street Food Adventure!
Our second evening in Chiang Mai took us straight into the buzzing Chiang Mai Night Market — a maze of food stalls, clothing shops, and endless smells wafting through the air. We circled the streets on our scooter three or four times before finally deciding where to dive in. The choices were overwhelming, but in the best possible way.
We began with something simple yet delicious: gooey chocolate brownies that melted in our mouths. Soft, rich, and just the right amount of sweet — the perfect start to the night.
Next up were the ever-reliable spring rolls, stuffed with fresh vegetables and wrapped in crispy rice paper. Dipped in sweet chili sauce, they had the ideal balance of crunch and heat.
Then came something truly unique — Thai coconut pancakes (Khanom Krok). Each little bite was a surprise, with fillings ranging from sweet corn to tofu to spring onion. Some were creamy and sweet, while others leaned savory. The mix of flavors kept us guessing with every bite.
Of course, no Thai night market experience would be complete without Som Tam (papaya salad). We ordered a fully vegetarian version and were fascinated by how different it tasted from any papaya we’d eaten before. Shredded green papaya replaced noodles, tossed with cucumber, tomato, peanuts, chilies, lime, and a punchy sauce. The result? Tangy, crunchy, slightly spicy, and unlike anything we’d tried so far.
To finish, we shared a plate of stir-fried rice noodles with tofu, bean sprouts, peanuts, and a squeeze of lime. Simple, comforting, and full of that classic Thai balance of flavors.
By the end of the evening, we went hunting for more brownies (sadly, sold out!) and finally made our way back to our room, full and happy.
This night wasn’t just about food — it was about experiencing Chiang Mai’s culture through its streets, flavors, and energy. For us, it was the first real taste of why Thailand’s night markets are world famous.
