S1 E05 | Radhanagar Beach Adventures, Local Bus Rides & Dinner at Fat Martin
We woke up early with one goal: Radhanagar Beach, often ranked among the most beautiful in the world. The skies looked moody, but that didn’t stop us from packing our sunscreen (applied hastily on the road, in true rookie fashion) and hopping onto a local bus.
The bus ride itself was a pleasant surprise—air-conditioned, just ₹25 per person, and it dropped us right at the beach entrance after a breezy 9 km ride. Funny enough, only local buses here are air-conditioned, not the flashy private ones!
When we arrived, Radhanagar was wrapped in rain and wind. For a magical hour, we had the entire stretch of white sand to ourselves, with only a few friendly dogs for company. The water shimmered pale blue, though the waves kept us from really swimming. We waited, sheltered under trees, hoping the skies would open.
And they did. By mid-morning, the rain paused, shops began stirring awake, and we grabbed a quick shared Maggi before heading back to the beach. Radhanagar is a Blue Flag beach, which means it’s equipped with eco-friendly facilities: RO drinking water, clean toilets, changing rooms, showers, even a small first-aid office. Everything costs a nominal ₹10, but the cleanliness is worth it.
We lounged under the trees, people-watched as more travelers arrived, and compared transport notes. Last time, we’d splurged on a taxi (₹1,500 round trip), but this time the bus felt perfect—budget-friendly, frequent, and easy to recommend.
By noon the rain returned, so we packed up, grabbed lunch at the same thali spot as yesterday, and headed back to Green Valley for some editing and rest. Shishira wasn’t feeling her best—probably the mix of little sleep and heavy weather—so we kept the evening gentle.
Dinner plans brightened things up: we walked down the café-lined street and ended up at Fat Martin, a newer place with cozy lights and a menu full of both Indian and continental dishes. We tucked into sautéed veggies, garlic mash, and more comfort food. It felt like the perfect end to a day of chasing sunshine, dodging rain, and soaking in one of the world’s most iconic beaches.
