S1 E12 | Last Day in Havelock & Health Scare on the Move to Neil Island
Today was our last day on beautiful Havelock Island, and although we had just a few hours before heading to our next destination, Neil Island, we wanted to soak in some calm moments by the reception restaurant. While relaxing, we kicked off a very exciting new chapter—starting to upload our vlogs online to share all these travel stories with you. It felt amazing and a little nerve-wracking to schedule videos for release every couple of days; your feedback on the best viewing time would mean a lot.
After breakfast, we set off with some nerves about making it to the ferry on time—an auto-rickshaw delay had us worried, but we made it just in time at the jetty. The ferry ride itself was a peaceful introduction to Neil Island, bringing lovely memories of Havelock’s blue waters behind us as we prepared for what awaited ahead.
Unfortunately, the day took a turn when Shish began feeling unwell. The aftermath of last night’s pasta hit hard—nausea and stomach ache slowed her down, and dinner wasn’t an option. We managed some cucumbers and restless sleep before deciding to seek medical help. The government health center on the island was reassuring: free consultation, free medications, and a simple diagnosis of gastric issues and dehydration, common among tourists here. We picked up gastric tablets and rehydration salts, committed to plenty of water and rest.
The hot, still weather added to our discomfort, almost like being inside an oven without a breeze. But despite the heat, the calm and quiet of the island gave us a chance to regroup. After medication, Shishira started feeling better, and we spent the afternoon enjoying a wholesome local meal of chapati and bhindi masala, the perfect comfort food.
Walking back to the resort on the lonely roads, with barely another soul in sight, felt both peaceful and a little eerie as dusk settled. Packing up for the next leg of our journey, I felt bittersweet about leaving Havelock—the blue waters and tranquil days will be missed, but Neil Island’s promise has me excited.
Stick around for the next episodes as we explore Neil Island, bringing you along for the ups, downs, and everything in between.
For anyone traveling to the Andaman Islands, especially on a budget, be prepared for the occasional travel bug—it’s part of the experience, but with good local healthcare and rest, you’re in safe hands.
