S1 E04 | Our ₹200 Room in Havelock Island, Andaman
After three mornings of brutal alarms, today we finally woke up naturally—no rushing to jetty queues, no crack-of-dawn ferries. Just the sound of drizzle on leaves and the promise of slow island life.
We’d checked into Green Valley Resort the evening before, and this was our first proper chance to explore it. The cottages sit tucked away in what feels like a coconut grove, lush and bright in the monsoon. Our little wooden cabin came with huge windows opening into greenery, a cozy bed, and a simple bathroom setup. At ₹3,000 for two weeks (₹200 per night for both of us), it almost felt unreal—especially since most divers staying long-term snag the best deals.
After a room tour and some lazy unpacking, we strolled into Havelock’s main market. Supplies here are surprisingly mainland-like—you can pick up cup noodles, biscuits, soap, even Maggi at MRP if you head to the bigger supermarkets. Smaller shops, though, add a little island premium of 10–50%.
The vegetable market was buzzing with locals, with a temple nearby and space where fishermen sell the fresh catch every morning. We didn’t buy much, just stocked up for quick snacks, but it was nice to know how self-sufficient the island feels.
Lunch was at a small, no-frills restaurant where a veg thali cost ₹100–₹120. For rice, chapati, dal, veggies, and curry, it felt like a steal—especially since most cafes on Havelock are priced like mid-range Bangalore joints (think ₹60 for a basic coffee that’s ₹15 back home). We’ve realized you can eat affordably if you stick to these tiny local spots.
By afternoon, the clouds parted, the air turned breezy, and we finally crossed to the other side of the resort—to find ourselves right on Vijayanagar Beach. And wow.
Crystal-clear turquoise water, white sand, and even a small mangrove patch for shade—it felt too good to be true, especially since this wasn’t a luxury property but a budget one. We plopped down under the trees and decided this was our office/beach/life for the day.
We’ll be exploring Radhanagar Beach next (weather permitting), maybe even hopping on the local bus to get there. But today was all about settling into island rhythm: market strolls, budget meals, and the joy of knowing the beach is just a few barefoot steps away.
Catch all of it—room tour, market finds, beach bliss—in today’s vlog!
