S1 E02 | Buying Ferry Tickets and Finding Comfort Food in Port Blair, Andaman
Our second day in Port Blair started with sleepy eyes and hopeful hearts. The mission: secure those elusive government ferry tickets to Havelock. Everyone told us they sell out in a flash, so we marched off early, stomachs empty, dreams intact.
Except, as with most things in the Andamans, nothing went as planned. First stop: the ferry office, which promptly sent us on a wild goose chase to a medical center—actually a school doubling as a doctor’s desk—where we were told we needed a local stamp on our Covid vaccine certificates. Dutifully, we walked across town, only to be told the opposite: we’d need the stamp after buying the ticket. An hour of sweaty wandering later, we’d achieved absolutely nothing except frizzier hair and slightly grumpier moods.
A kind travel agent encouraged us to try again, and on our second attempt, the official stamped our documents in under 15 seconds. Just like that, step one was done! Not the ticket yet, but at least progress. Tomorrow at 5:30 a.m., we’d find out our fate.
The rest of the day softened into slower rhythms: a masala dosa breakfast, hours editing our very first vlog, and a casual evening walk through noisy Port Blair streets. By dinner, a friend’s recommendation led us to Icy Spicy, a cheerful vegetarian spot. The chole bhature was exactly the comfort food we didn’t know we needed.
Travel days aren’t always glamorous—sometimes they’re just ferry forms, frizzy hair, and fried chole. But that’s the joy of full-time travel: even the missteps make the memories sweeter.
Can’t wait for you to watch this little slice of chaos in today’s vlog!
