S1 E67 | Day Trip to Kep – Beach, Mangroves and Seafood
Just half an hour from Kampot lies the small coastal town of Kep, once a popular French retreat and now known for its beaches, mangroves, and seafood. We spent the day here to see what this seaside town had to offer.
Our first stop was Kep Beach, right along the Gulf of Thailand. The sea was rough, with waves too strong to swim in, but standing by the shoreline and watching the endless horizon was still calming. Just beside the beach was a mangrove forest, with wooden walkways weaving through the trees. Exploring this quiet space reminded us of other mangroves we’ve visited before, only this time with the Gulf right by our side.
Lining the coast were several small huts and picnic spots, where families could stop for snacks or dinners with a view. Kep Market, just down the road, was buzzing with energy—famous for its fresh seafood, especially crab. For seafood lovers, this is a must-visit. But as vegetarians, there wasn’t much for us to try, so after soaking in the atmosphere, we decided to head back to Kampot for the night.
It wasn’t the most eventful day, but it was a slice of Cambodian coastal life. Kep had its charm—a rugged beach, peaceful mangroves, and food that draws travelers from across the country.
This vlog is part of our ongoing YouTube travel series, where we share honest stories of our journey around the world. Through days like this in Cambodia, we learned that not every stop has to be spectacular—sometimes it’s about experiencing the little contrasts along the way.
