S1 E66 | Exploring Bokor National Park – Waterfalls, French Ruins and Local Flavors
When we set out for Bokor National Park in Cambodia, we thought we knew what to expect. The plan was simple: chase a few waterfalls, admire the views, and enjoy the cool mountain weather that makes Bokor such a contrast to the rest of the country. But the day turned into much more than that.
The first stop was the famous waterfall, where the sheer force of the water rushing past us felt both thrilling and terrifying. We stood just feet away from the edge, the roar echoing around us, only to realize there weren’t many safe viewpoints. For the tickets we paid, we were surprised to receive two complimentary water bottles, but the waterfall itself felt hidden—its beauty swallowed by the sheer drop and the brown rush below.
Driving further, we reached the old French ruins—abandoned colonial buildings that still stand silently in the mist. The most striking of these was the old church, a lonely structure perched on the hillside. It was eerie yet fascinating, a glimpse into Cambodia’s colonial past. Despite the weather being stormy and grey, the mood of the place left a lasting impression.
To balance the gloom, we found joy in something simple: local street food. We tried grilled corn topped with sauces, a spicy mix of chili and coconut flavors, and even watched as vendors prepared fresh pork skewers in the same way. The smoky flavors were comforting after a day of rain, mist, and long walks through history.
This vlog is part of our world travel series on YouTube, where we document our journey across countries with honest stories, personal reflections, and the little surprises we find along the way. Bokor National Park gave us a mix of awe, nostalgia, and discovery—and that’s exactly what makes travel unforgettable.
