S1 E61 | Vietnam Train and FREE Flight ticket on Vietjet – Thanh Hoa to Ho Chi Minh City

Vlogs

In this episode, we checked out of our accommodation in Thanh Hoa and embarked on an exciting journey to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Our route took us from Tam Coc to Ninh Binh, then to Thanh Hoa (where we spent the night), before finally reaching Ho Chi Minh City.

We decided to try Vietnam’s trains for the first time. The train ride offered a unique experience with comfortable seating, local snacks, and scenic views along the way. Boarding the train was straightforward, and the ride allowed us to witness local life and interact with fellow passengers.

From Tan Hoa, we faced a challenge getting to the airport. Public buses were confusing, with limited English signage, and our initial attempts to find a direct route were stressful. Fortunately, helpful locals guided us to the correct bus (bus number 4), ensuring we reached the airport safely.

At the airport, we booked a domestic flight to Ho Chi Minh City using Vietjet Airlines that often advertised free tickets. We actually ended up buying two of these tickets. In reality, its a great deal with extremely low fares – most of the cost was just taxes and airport fees. For example, our flight from Tan Hoa to Ho Chi Minh City cost only $23 per person in taxes. This made flying faster, cheaper, and more convenient than taking a bus or train for the same route.

Finally, we landed in Ho Chi Minh City and settled into our hotel, reflecting on the adventure. This episode highlights the unique experiences of Vietnamese trains, the helpfulness of locals, and how to find budget-friendly domestic flights for longer journeys.
