S1 E42 | Exploring Bangkok: Temples, Floating Markets, and IconSiam

Vlogs

Bangkok never fails to surprise, and today we dove into the heart of the city for a mix of culture, food, and shopping. Our day’s adventure started with a temple visit, guided by recommendations from fellow hostel travelers, and quickly turned into a journey full of vibrant sights, spicy food, and even a little rain.

Our first stop was Wat Arun, named after Aruna, the god of dawn. Known as one of Thailand’s most iconic and beautiful temples, it’s a visual feast of gold accents, porcelain mosaics from China, and Khmer-style architecture. Every corner boasts intricate craftsmanship, hundreds of Buddha statues, and a mix of Indian, Chinese, and Thai cultural influences.

While Wat Arun is breathtaking any time of day, the sunset adds a magical glow, highlighting the main tower and intricate details. A small entry fee of 100 baht is more than worth it for this architectural marvel.

After soaking in the temple’s beauty, we wandered through a local market, sampling some of Bangkok’s street food offerings. Vegetarian-friendly options are rare, but we found some noodles, spring rolls, and a potato-cheese hot dog that gave our taste buds a spicy kick. The toppings and sauces truly brought the dishes to life.

Next up was IconSiam, a stunning riverside mall that blends modern architecture with traditional Thai touches. Inside, there’s even a floating market, and while vegetarian options were limited in the massive food court, exploring the space was a feast for the eyes. From sparkling lights to the Apple Store with scenic river views, IconSiam is as much about experiences as it is shopping.

The mall is incredibly easy to access via tourist boats from nearby piers, making it a convenient stop on any Bangkok itinerary. The water fountain show in the evening added the perfect finishing touch to our visit.

As the day drew to a close, sudden rain showers had us rushing back to our hostel, navigating Bangkok’s streets with umbrellas and a little adventure. Despite the hectic pace, exploring the city’s temples, markets, and malls made it a day packed with unforgettable memories.

Even when the weather surprises you or vegetarian options are limited, Bangkok has a way of making every outing feel vibrant, flavorful, and full of discovery.
